Crystalline silica exposure presents a serious and ongoing risk to workers in construction, manufacturing, mining, tunnelling, and stone-related industries. Under the model WHS Regulations, PCBUs must provide annual health monitoring for workers if they are carrying out ongoing work using, handling, generating or otherwise exposed to respirable crystalline silica and there is a significant risk to the worker’s health because of exposure. This includes an exit medical or if the employee already has existing conditions, such as severe Asthma or COPD may require more frequent review, 6 monthly.
