Isocyanates
End-to-end isocyanates health surveillance.
Service Description
Isocyanates are widely used in industries such as automotive spray painting, manufacturing, and industrial coatings and are a known cause of occupational asthma and other serious respiratory conditions. Employers have a responsibility to monitor the health of workers exposed to isocyanates and to identify early signs of sensitisation or lung impairment. Qualitas Occupational Health provides structured, compliant isocyanates health surveillance programs to support worker safety and reduce employer risk. Our isocyanates health surveillance services are designed to meet Australian workplace health and safety requirements and follow evidence-based clinical guidance. We focus on early detection, ongoing monitoring, and clear medical documentation to help employers meet their obligations with confidence. We currently offer baseline isocyanates health surveillance, with programs designed to support: Pre-exposure and commencement assessments Respiratory questionnaires and clinical review Lung function testing where indicated Ongoing monitoring schedules in line with exposure risk and clinical guidance Workers exposed to isocyanates are typically assessed at six weeks after commencing exposure, followed by six-monthly monitoring while exposure continues. Where no adverse health effects are identified after 12 months, monitoring may transition to annual review at the discretion of the registered medical practitioner. For spray painters using isocyanate-based paints in motor vehicle repair, early and frequent respiratory monitoring is particularly important to detect changes as soon as possible. Optional services are available to support broader workforce health and compliance requirements, including: Instant drug and alcohol screening Audiometry (hearing testing) All assessments are conducted by experienced occupational health clinicians and supported by appropriate laboratory services where required. Results are reviewed clinically and reported clearly, providing employers with defensible records while maintaining worker confidentiality. Why choose Qualitas Occupational Health? What sets Qualitas apart is our employer-focused, compliance-driven approach. We don’t just conduct tests — we help organisations: Understand isocyanates health surveillance obligations Implement structured and defensible monitoring programs Identify respiratory risks early Reduce long-term exposure-related liability Maintain consistent medical governance across sites
